What are the newest Carnival ships? Carnival cruise ships by age

newer carnival cruise ships

The Carnival cruise ship has a gross tonnage of 180,800 and a guest capacity of 5,282 at double occupancy. She features the first roller coaster at sea named BOLT and features new venues not seen on other older vessels. Carnival Jubilee is the third Excel-class cruise ship for Carnival Cruise Line and will be fully powered by liquid natural gas (LNG). The ship is 183,521 gross tons with a guest capacity of over 5,374, along with 1,735 crew members.

The ship also has a first-for-Carnival Luxury Vintage Boutique that features repurposed classic Chanel, Dior and other vintage accessories and couture. Brass coins representing every Carnival ship from the first Mardi Gras to the Carnival Jubilee are embedded in the floor, moving up in time as one heads forward. Screens can close off Celebration Central’s giant glass wall for a few exclusive to the Carnival Celebration shows. If his name sounds remotely familiar, Vistosi’s work has appeared on several Holland America and Costa ships in recent years. Smoking (including electronic cigarettes) is allowed but only in designated outdoor areas on Deck 8 mid-ship on the starboard side. Smoking is also allowed on the starboard side of the casino, but it's for cigarettes only.

Carnival Cracks Down on High Stakes Activity on Pool Deck

Like the Mardi Gras, the newer ship has six fun zones, three that are familiar and three that are fresh and unique to the Celebration. Note that it is important that the name on your reservation be exactly as it is stated on your passport or other official proof of nationality. All this said, we recommend checking Carnival's website before sailing for up-to-date requirements.

BOLT: ULTIMATE SEA COASTER

If you’re someone who loves to cruise on the bigger mega ships that rival floating cities, you’ll want to choose Icon of the Seas or Carnival Jubilee. Both of these massive cruise ships have everything you could want on a cruise ship; however, be prepared to fight crowds during popular events. When it comes to size, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas cannot be beaten - literally. The 250,800 gross-ton vessel is the biggest cruise ship in the world.

A version of this chef Emeril Lagasse-affiliated spot is on each of Carnival's Excel Class ships, bearing the hull number of the original vessel for which the new one is named. Simply walk up to order at the counter, have a seat and a waiter will take over from there. During my recent sailing, I found all the Carnival classics, like the Alchemy Bar and Guy’s Burger Joint, a thrilling ropes course, dive-in movies, and plenty of themed deck parties.

BIG PLANS FORBUILDING FUN

It also offers occasional itineraries through scenic transpacific spots like Fiji, Tahiti, Hawaii, and Japan. The ship has all of the brand’s classic amenities, like the RedFrog Rum Bar and Punchliner Comedy Club, plus an array of dining options, including sushi, pizza, ice cream, and an over-the-top brunch. Unlike their fleetmates, Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras both skip the soaring, multi-deck-high central atrium and replace it with a three-deck-high ocean-facing atrium along the ship's starboard (right-hand) side. The area was revamped and renamed Celebration Central area on this ship, decorated with color-changing lights designed to look like confetti. Guest services and shore excursions have been moved out of this central area to a more out-of-the-way spot on Deck 8 aft. Cloud 9 Spa™ staterooms on Carnival Celebration® feature exclusive décor and in-room amenities to help soothe you after a long day’s fun — spa bathrobes and slippers, plus toiletries by Elemis.

Too many people crowd into the same spaces, lines snake around corners and bumps and spills are unavoidable. I've seen ships from other lines where the top-deck attractions take up so much space, the pools and lounging space get short shrift. Carnival Celebration manages to pack a lot into the Deck 18 playground, leaving plenty of real estate for the sun worshippers.

Carnival Celebration's Six Zones Mix New and Familiar

Here, I'll outline what's new, what we loved and what could use some tweaks. For a full list of Carnival ships, check out this List of Carnival Ships From Newest to Oldest. The ship was originally launched in 1996 under the name Carnival Destiny.

You'll find floor-to-ceiling windows that really bring in the ocean views. Of course you'll be back here throughout your cruise, taking a break with a nice cup of coffee or a menu of great food choices at JavaBlue™ Café, enjoying performances up on stage, or killing time fabulously at the Grand View Bar. Just wait until the sun goes down and the space slips into evening dress, transforming into an amazing show venue after dark!

The ship was boldly designed from bow to stern with kids at the forefront. Carnival Jubilee is most similar in size to Icon of the Seas, although not nearly as massive. The newest ship from Carnival Cruise Line is about 72% the size of Icon, measuring 183,521 gross tons. She is the sister ship to Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras in the Excel Class, each measuring 1,130 feet long. A few weeks before, Celebrity Cruises released its newest and most innovative cruise ship, Celebrity Ascent.

The vessel is 183,521 gross tons with a guest capacity of 5,372 at double occupancy, along with 1,735 crew members. Carnival Celebration is based in Miami, Florida, and also takes the name of a previous Carnival cruise ship, Celebration, that was part of the holiday class. The ship has an ocean theme with some retro 90s design elements throughout.

She has a Ph.D., pet butterflies and extensive collections of both books and fashionable eyewear. Every so often, she'll appear on the screens above the area to chat. Unique to Carnival Jubilee are two new bars in the Deck 6 Currents zone.

This meant it wasn't at capacity, but it still felt loud and crowded, and often was fraught with lines. However, the service was generally excellent, with an exceedingly friendly crew. When Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Jubilee debuted in December 2023, it became the third ship in the line's Excel Class, closely mimicking sister ships Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration. Although there are more similarities than differences among the three, Carnival has still found a way to make Carnival Jubilee innovative and fun by tweaking a few of the offerings.

Expect an onboard brewery, incredible restaurants, and family-friendly fun. If you're a foodie, try Guy’s Burger Joint for loaded burgers straight from Flavortown or Shaq’s Big Chicken for the basketball star's incredible fried chicken sandwiches. Kids will love seeing The Cat in the Hat characters during activities like character parades, story time, and character breakfasts. As a professional traveler, it's not a huge surprise that one of my favorite public areas on the ship is the travel-themed The Gateway. The Latitudes Bar called my name with its seatbacks decorated with faux passport stamps and split-flap departure board signage. My husband and I spent an enjoyable hour trying a couple of the bar-specific cocktails, inspired by countries around the world.

Norwegian Viva is much smaller than both of these floating cities, measuring a little more than half the size of Icon of the Seas. Built to be 142,500 gross tons, the newest ship from Norwegian Cruise Line has 20 decks of unparalleled experiences and amenities. Finally, Norwegian Cruise Line debuted Norwegian Viva as the second ship in its groundbreaking Prima Class in August 2023. The beautifully designed, midsize cruise ship has received higher guest satisfaction scores than any other new build, according to the cruise line. Norwegian Viva's size allows the ship to sail to unique destinations around the world.
